                                                                             Image 2
                                     ( https://vanseodesign.com/web-design/points-dots-lines/ )

A point is the simplest type of line and is used to create basic shapes like squares and rectangles. Points are also the building blocks of more complex shapes, which you can make by linking points together. In design, points are often used to create visual interest or direct attention to a particular area.

LINE

Line. Often the starting point for all artistic expression, the line is one of the most essential elements of design. It always has more length than thickness, and can be unbroken, broken, or implied. A line can be vertical, diagonal, horizontal, and even curved.

SHAPES

Image 2

Forms are three dimensional and there are two types:
geometric (man-made) and natural (organic). A digital or physical form can be measured by height, width, and depth. A form can be created by combining shapes, and it can be enhanced by color or texture. Depending on their usage, they can also be ornate or utilitarian.

FORM

                                                                            image 2
                                    ( https://www.dragon1.com/resources/design-principles )

In the realm of design, "form" refers to the three-dimensional aspect of an object or design. It encompasses the physical shape and structure of the design element. Form can be understood in terms of its volume, mass, and the space it occupies.

TEXTURE

image 2

Texture is the way a surface feels, or the way it's perceived to feel. It has the power to attract or detract a viewer's eyes, and can be applied to lines, shapes, and forms. There are two types of texture: tactile and visual.

SPACE

image 1

image 2

Space refers to the area that a shape or form occupies. It also refers to the background against which we see the shape or form. Space can be defined as positive and negative. The positive space of a design is the filled space in the design—often it is the shapes that make up the design.

COLOUR

image 2

Color is used by designers to portray mood, light, depth, and point of view. Designers use the color wheel and the tenets of color theory—a set of guidelines for mixing, combining, and manipulating colors—to create color schemes.

CONTRAST

image 2

The design principle contrast refers to the use of visually different elements. In addition to capturing attention, contrast can guide the viewer's eye to a focal point, highlight important information and add variety, or even drama, to a design.

BALANCE

image 1

                                                                             image 2
                          ( https://tlbb.com.sg/archives/basics-of-design-part-1-the-5-principles-of-design/ )

What are the design principles of balance? Balance refers to the distribution of visual elements based on their perceived weight. Elements may be balanced based on color, texture and space to achieve a sense of equilibrium and harmony in a composition.

EMPHASIS

Emphasis. Emphasis can be created by size, weight, position, color, shape, and style. Sometimes referred to as dominance, emphasis might seem similar to contrast, but it's not quite the same. Contrast deals with the difference between two objects, and emphasis deals with the impact of an object.

RULES OF THIRD

image 2

The rule of thirds is a method used to divide images or graphics into nine thirds by creating an evenly spaced grid with three columns and three rows. Designers and photographers can create or imagine these guidelines to arrange the elements in their design or to position the view of the photo they're about to take.

REPETITION/PATTERN/RHYTHM

image 2

In design, repetition is a fundamental element that refers to the repeated use of visual elements within a composition. It plays a crucial role in creating rhythm, unity, and coherence in a design.

MOVEMENT

image 1

image 2

In design, movement refers to the visual flow or sense of motion created within a composition. While physical movement doesn't occur in a static design, designers use various visual techniques to imply movement and guide the viewer's eye through the piece.

HIERARCHY

image 1

image 2

Hierarchy in graphic design utilizes several key principles, including size, color, contrast, alignment, repetition, and brightness, to emphasize certain characteristics of the design. It controls those factors in order to show importance within the design as a whole.

ALLIGNMENT

                                                                            image 1
                                              ( https://pixso.net/tips/alignment-in-design/ )

image 2

Alignment is a fundamental principle in design that refers to the positioning of elements relative to each other or to a common axis or baseline. It plays a crucial role in creating visual order, structure, and cohesion within a composition.

HARMONY

image 1

                                                                            image 2
                             ( https://graphically.io/blog/the-most-important-elements-of-design/ )

Harmony is the visually satisfying effect of combining similar or related elements. Harmony in visual design means all parts of the visual image relate to and complement each other. Visual harmony is achieved through a balance of unity and variety.

UNITY

image 1

image 2

Unity in design refers to the harmonious relationship among the various elements within a composition. It's the cohesive force that ties together different parts of a design to create a sense of completeness and wholeness .

PROPORTION

image 1

image 2

Proportion in design refers to the relative size of the elements in the design. In graphic design, you may not necessarily need to worry about the actual size of a specific design element, but you may be much more deeply concerned with the relationship of specific elements to other elements within the design itself.

Gender Equality ( UNDSG GOAL )

Choosing gender equality as a design principle in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) is a strategic decision aimed at addressing systemic inequalities and fostering sustainable development. Here are some design principles observed in incorporating gender equality into the UNSDG:

1. Inclusivity: Gender equality design ensures that the goals and strategies developed are inclusive of all genders. It acknowledges the diverse experiences and needs of individuals across the gender spectrum, including women, men, transgender, and non-binary individuals.

2. Intersectionality: Gender equality design recognizes that individuals experience multiple intersecting forms of discrimination based on factors such as race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, disability, and more. It takes into account these intersecting identities to develop targeted interventions that address the unique challenges faced by marginalized groups.

3. Participation and Representation: Gender equality design emphasizes the importance of meaningful participation and representation of women and other marginalized genders in decision-making processes at all levels. It ensures that their voices are heard, their perspectives are considered, and they have equal opportunities to contribute to shaping policies and programs.
  1. 4. Capacity Building: Gender equality design prioritizes building the capacity of institutions, organizations, and individuals to promote gender equality effectively. This includes providing training, resources, and support to empower stakeholders to challenge gender norms, address biases, and implement gender-responsive approaches.

  2. 5. Data and Evidence-based Decision Making: Gender equality design relies on robust data collection and analysis to inform decision-making processes. It emphasizes the importance of disaggregated data by gender to identify disparities, monitor progress, and evaluate the impact of interventions accurately.

  3. 6. Policy Coherence and Integration: Gender equality design seeks to integrate gender considerations into all areas of policy and programming, ensuring coherence across sectors. It recognizes that achieving gender equality requires addressing structural barriers in areas such as education, healthcare, employment, and governance.

  4. 7. Accountability and Monitoring: Gender equality design establishes mechanisms for accountability and monitoring to track progress towards achieving gender equality goals. It holds governments, institutions, and other stakeholders accountable for their commitments and ensures transparency in reporting progress.

By incorporating these design principles into the UNSDG, policymakers and practitioners can develop comprehensive and effective strategies to advance gender equality and contribute to sustainable development outcomes.
